Sweepstakes casinos explained
They resemble online casinos but are legally promotions. That distinction explains the dual currency model, the free entry route and the state by state availability.
See the ratings18+ (21+ in some states). No purchase necessary. Two currencies with different functions
Every sweepstakes casino uses two currencies. Gold Coins are play money: issued in large quantities, available for purchase, and never redeemable. Sweepstakes Coins are promotional entries: never sold, issued free at registration, through daily bonuses, as a gift with Gold Coin purchases, or by mail in request. Prizes won with Sweepstakes Coins can be redeemed for cash or gift cards.
Because a free route to Sweepstakes Coins always exists, the activity is classed as a sweepstakes rather than gambling, in the same way as a prize draw attached to a consumer product.
What happens, in order
Name, date of birth, email and state. The free package is credited once email or phone is confirmed.
Each game has a switch between Gold and Sweepstakes mode. Select Sweepstakes if a prize is the objective.
Free coins must be wagered once (occasionally twice) and a minimum balance, usually 50, is required to redeem.
One identity check, then a prize request. Our ratings record how long each casino took to pay.
Is a purchase ever required?
No. Every rated casino can be used without a purchase. Players who do buy Gold Coin bundles do so for additional play time; the free Sweepstakes Coins attached to those bundles are incidental.
If you choose to purchase, treat it as paid entertainment. Set a limit before you begin. Our responsible play page lists the tools available and a free helpline.
